What is Sleep and Airway Health?

Breathing well is one of the most essential pieces of wellness. A healthy, open airway can affect one’s sleep and overall whole health.

Do you struggle with health problems such as fatigue, stress, or headaches? Do you have head, neck, shoulder, and back tension? Do you have a child who is struggling to breastfeed or not sleeping through the night? Is your doctor treating you or your child for chronic diseases but you haven’t found the root of the problem?

What if you discovered that what’s driving all of these conditions is something that is rarely considered by today’s medical practitioners?

An airway-centered disorder is a structural and physiological condition of the mouth, jaw, nasal passages, tongue, or throat that involves an obstruction of the upper airways, which in turn can affect breathing 24 hours a day and lead to a long list of health issues.

This is exactly why we launched Bloom - Center for Sleep and Airway Heath: To drive awareness and address the causes in order to help our patients smile, breath, and live their healthiest lives.

About

Dr. Elizabeth Turner

My dedication to airway development and lip and tongue ties began with my own son when I was able to watch him blossom and thrive immediately following his own simple tongue-tie procedure.

I’ll always be there to listen to the questions you have. I’ll share my stories to help you find the right solutions for your mouth and body. This is how sleep and airway health should be.

Tongue-Tie and Lip-Tie Procedures

A tongue-tie or lip-tie can impact feeding, speaking, sleeping, chronic pain, and a whole host of other issues!  We assess these in all ages if symptoms are present, from infancy to adulthood.

Sleep Screenings

In 2017, the American Dental Association made it a dentist’s responsibility to evaluate our patient’s airways.  Sleep and breathing impacts not only fatigue, but your entire health. We can help you put the pieces together and find rest and relief.

TMJ Therapy

Jaw or TMJ pain can be debilitating. It can make it difficult to enjoy your favorite foods and also lead to a long list of woes, from headaches to a stiff neck. There are many options to get you feeling better, including TMJ splints and repositioning the jaw.

Myofunctional Therapy

Myofunctional Therapy is a series of simple, quick exercises that strengthen the tongue. It is required before surgery as well as after, where the focus will be on the tongue’s resting position, chewing and swallowing, and a continued emphasis on strengthening.

How We Work:

Consultation

The first step to sleep and airway health is a consultation. We take the time to listen to your unique story and create a custom plan based on your airway and sleep health and needs.

Treatment Plan

After the consultation, we map out a plan for your sleep and airway health.  The plan may include a combination of exercises and even procedures, based on your health and goals.

Referrals

If needed, we will refer you to additional specialists in the sleep and airway health field - from osteopaths to chiropractors based on your plan.

Procedures

After exercises and prep have been completed, a procedure, such as a frenuloplasty, may be performed.

Airway Health Success Stories:

Dr. Liz blew my expectations out of the water. She was so helpful! We had previously asked several dentists, a pediatrician and an ENT about possible tongue ties and none of them were specialized enough to recognize the issues we were having and to help us with further treatment. Dr. Liz was the help we needed. This is the way dentistry I think should be practiced. She’s looking at the whole person and helping us make our lives better by improving our mouths. Dr. Liz offers so much more than just typical dentistry! Now that I know what Whole Person Dentistry can look like, I feel so encouraged and inspired. She helped me, and our family, so much. I am really grateful to her

Mary Huston

Dr. Turner has a great approach and is a considerate and thoughtful person. Her skills as a dentist are exceptional. She laser treated our 6 mo baby for tongue and lip ties. She provided us with a lot of knowledge and support prior to the procedure as well as after. She called and texted in the days following to ensure recovery was successful. I recommend her as a provider, particularly to treat tongue and lip ties
